Day 5: Queenstown

Regarded as the adventure capital of New Zealand Queenstown is a fantastic year round destination. Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu the town boasts a wonderful variety of designer shops, boutique hotels and restaurants.

Day 6: Queenstown

Take the opportunity today to sample some of Queenstown’s adventure activities. Chose one of our Optional Highlights and experience the world’s most thrilling jet boat ride through the Shotover River Canyons. Day 7: Queenstown to Milford Sound (285 kilometres)

Travel this morning from Queenstown to Milford Sound. Pass by rainforests, lakes and waterfalls as you enter the World Heritage Fiordland National Park en route to Milford Sound. Travel through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2 klm tunnel drilled through solid rock before arriving at Milford Sound. At 3.00pm this afternoon board the Red Boats Cruise for a 2 hour cruise through the spectacular Milford Sound. Described as one of the natural wonders of the world this famous fiord is the natural habitat of wildlife such as dolphins, seals and penguins. Boats journeying through the Sound are often accompanied by a pod of dolphins! Travel onwards this evening from Milford Sound to Te Anau (121 kilometres)

Day 8: Te Anau to Lake Wanaka (273 kilometres)

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Te Anau before travelling to Lake Wanaka. Spend a relaxing afternoon in Lake Wanaka. Enjoy a round of golf or relax in the spa pools. Fishing, white water sledging and quad biking are also popular activities in this region

Day 1 Tue: Arrive Auckland

Day 2 Wed: Auckland – Rotorua

This morning we board The Overlander for our journey through the heart of the North Island. Enjoy stunning views of lush farmland and the Waikato River. We join our coach at the farming town of Otorohanga and travel to Waitomo where we experience a guided tour of the Glow-worm Grotto. Enjoy a special cultural evening with a visit to The Realm of Tãne followed by a Maori concert and Hangi feast. You will be greeted with a traditional Maori welcome ceremony, called a Powhiri, before experiencing a night of authentic traditional culture, entertainment and a Hangi feast.

Day 3 Thu: Rotorua

We begin our day with a ride on the Skyline Gondola and breakfast with sparkling wine overlooking Rotorua. We also visit Paradise Valley Springs and the Agrodome’s Sheep Show. Later, tour Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve where a local Maori guide escorts us past pools of boiling mud and geysers. We also view kiwis here. Day 4 Fri: Rotorua – Wellington

This morning visit Taupo and mighty Huka Falls. This afternoon we board The Overlander at Taumarunui bound for Wellington. Enjoy lush forest, farmland and stunning alpine views as we cross the volcanic plateau of the central North Island. We traverse gorges and sprawling plains, before entering the world famous Raurimu Spiral. Enjoy dinner aboard The Overlander this evening, before arriving in Wellington.

Day 5 Sat: Blenheim

Day 3 Tue: Dunedin

Day 4 Wed: Dunedin

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Dunedin. Opportunity to visit Larnach Castle, New Zealand’s only authentic castle. Travel south through Balclutha and the farming town of Gore. Cross the rich fertile country of South Otago and continue to Te Anau, situated on the shores of Lake Te Anau, which was gouged out by a huge glacier.

Day 5 Thu: Milford Sound

Travel south towards Fiordland, through some of New Zealand’s magnificent alpine country. Drive through the Homer Tunnel, a tunnel one mile long and completely hand hewn. Day 6 Fri: Queenstown

Today is at leisure for you to enjoy the many scenic delights of Queenstown. Your Tour Director will happily advise on the optional activities available. This evening you have the opportunity to ride the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak for a delicious buffet dinner.

Day 7 Sat: Fox Glacier

Enjoy a visit to Arrowtown, a colourful township steeped in local history. Follow the course of the fast flowing Kawarau River through the Kawarau Gorge. Travel over the Haast Pass, which winds its way through Mount Aspiring National Park. Continue north along the coastal road to Fox Glacier, with the towering mountains on your right and the mighty Tasman Sea on your left.

Day 8 Sun: Punakaiki

This morning you will have the opportunity to enjoy an optional scenic flight over Fox Glacier and Mt. Cook (weather permitting).
